Oli's First Swim Meet

If you didn't already know Oli has made the Kirkland Orcas swim team this summer and so far the practices have been going okay.  That said this evening was where the rubber hit the road - our first swim meet!  Therefore the entire Alston clan headed out to Edmonds to support him in every way we could.

He was swimming three races;
- 8 & under:  First leg of the freestyle relay
- 10 & under:  100 Individual Medley
- 8 & under:  25m butterfly.

Admittidly not his first choice for races - he loves his front crawl & isnt a huge butterfly fan however took them all on with such a great attitude we couldnt be anything but proud.  Whatever happend from here was going to be a bonus.

First Race:  Freestyle relay.
Now diving is optional at this age, so we'll work on that this coming week.  That said he was up first and determined to give his team a great lead.    So proud to say he did that touching the wall first.

Second Race: 100m IM.
Less than five minutes later he's back in the water to swim up an age group in the under 10's. This time he's figured out what needs to happen as has Julia that she needs to shout for him as loud as she can!  It was neck& neck until the final length where he nailed it on his freestyle.   Result:  touching the wall in first place (again).

Third Race:  25m Butterfly.
Last race & the confidence is ozzing out of him.  So confident that he's going to go off the blocks and throw caution to the wind over loosing his goggles.  However at the last minute he changed his mind (much to the amusement of the official behind the starting blocks).  Yet again however he pulls it out of nowhere & comes in first place

One proud family and one extrememly happy Oliver!
