Seattle 5k

This morning, Oli and I ran our 2nd 5k together. Another great time!

He surprised me with a sprint/walk/sprint strategy. We kept passing the same group of people and pretty soon I started to hear them chuckle saying, 'here he comes again'. Our finish time was slower than last time....a good time to learn the lesson, 'slow and steady can win the race'. He did however still end up with a respectable position - 22nd out of 44 in the under 15 age group category.

I fondly call Brett "TK" for "time keeper". He is obsessed with keeping time of everything (including once how long I took in the shower). We laughed when we got to the start line and both of us had two watches on each. Guess I am learning his TK ways...

Here we come...

Space blankets to keep us warm...it was a balmy 34 degrees during the race. Brrr.

A sprint to the finish!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I love Thanksgiving! I wish we could have been with our extended family today but in lieu of that we enjoyed it with our immediate family and our dear friends Ed and Vicky.

While the turkey and spice cake were completely overcooked, the essence of the holiday remained intact. We have so much to be thankful for and we took some time tonight to reflect on that (and I found a way to turn it into a sewing project....more on that later...)

Even though Thanksgiving is not something Brett grew up with, here he takes on the challenge of 'carving the bird'.

Time to Eat!

Oli enjoying his 'mocktail'. He poured in himself and said, "I like my mocktails filled to the top because I drink them so quickly."
Hmmm...hope that changes when he changes to cocktails...
Thanksgiving or any other night...Scout takes his place right here. Julia often hangs a piece of food over and dangles it for him. And now offers a 'uh oh' if she drops it. We are chalking 'uh oh' to be her first word. It is adorable.

Best seat in the house!

The kids, big and small loving the sledding.

The Yin and the Yang.

Oli'ism #157:

Oli: Where are you going on vacation with the kids, Ed?
Ed: We are taking them to Paris.
Oli: Oh, you can see the Icy Tower there!

Our First Snow

Our first snow day! And colder temperatures are coming our way...and maybe even some more snow.

Is it winter already?

Learning to Sew!

I am learning to sew. I am hooked. I love the adorable fabric. I love the idea of creating something.

I watch Julia try new skills every day (right now it is balancing while standing). Whether she is good or bad, she keeps trying. I will do that with the new skill I am learning.

Here are the two dresses I finished last night. Now on to the matching accessories!

Kindness

Brett and I were both victims of food poisoning on Sunday. Miserable.

It hit me first and the only good thing about that was that I received the most thoughtful and kind attention from Oli (he was fast asleep by the time Brett got sick).

As I went running to the bathroom, Oli went running the other direction. Brett wasn't sure why. Turns out he was making me a 'get well card'. Throughout the night, he would bring me cards or stuffed animals or whatever he thought might make me feel good. Showing how incredibly kind and thoughful he inately is.

As Brett said, "geez, you'd think he is gay, by how sensitive he is.".

Dancing Baby

You might want to mute the speakers...the singing is TERRIBLE but the dancing is ADORABLE.

Pumpkin Push 5k 2010

A day I won't soon forget. Oli sharing and LOVING my passion of running.

Last Saturday, we bundled up and participated in the Pumpkin Push 5k. We weren't sure how much Oli would run or not...he surprised us all (and himself). He ran the entire thing with 5 walking breaks and even up the BIG hill.

As we ran, his mouth was going as fast as his legs. For anyone that doubts that endorphins aren't produced by exercise, run with Oli.

He was so engaged during the run. We talked the entire time all about the race, timing chips, mile markers, saving some energy for the hill, the push at the finish line, friendly trash talking (he liked that!), and on and on and on.

He made my day and several other runners got a chuckle along the way by his enthusiasm.

As soon as he got home, he wanted to look up another 5k.

Walking to the start line.
Pre-Race strategizing...

Oli's new prized shirt...he tried to wear it everyday this week and loves that all 4 of us have matching shirts.

This video just begins to show his excitement.

Oli'ism #156:
Wendy: Oli, I just had a day dream that in about 1o years you will be the one that is coaching me during a race.
Oli: That just made my day that you said that.
Wendy: I hope that you keep me running.
Oli: Yeah, I could cheer you on. Or I could push you in a wheel chair.
I am not sure I have ever smiled so much writing a blog post. What a fun time we shared together!
