The Detox

Some of you asked for an update on my detox… so here it is. (If you are not interested, then feel free to wait till our next posting on our weekend in Suncadia :)

Encouraged by Camron McDonald, I started (and completed!) a 3 week detox and a 1 week herbal cleanse. I first want to thank Camron, Brett and other friends for you constant support through this. I could not have done it without you!

Detox
This detox consisted of removing the following things from my diet: wheat, pasta, rice, dairy, sugar, alcohol, preservatives, caffeine and halloween candy.

So what did I eat? Basically fruit, vegetables, nuts, lean chicken and egg whites.

The Cleanse
The herbal cleanse consisted of herbs, fiber pills, and alka fizz tablets.

My Learnings
The detox was easier than I thought it would be. And adding back in those foods was not as enjoyable as I thought it would be. So here are my take-aways
- Having none is much easier than having one. This was especially true for me for sweets.
- Exhibiting will power makes you feel strong (much better than the guilt of eating too many sweets).
- Eating salads for lunch every day can be yummy
- Eating something slightly different than the rest of the family is “ok”

Now what?
What will I do differently now:

- I will do a cleanse seasonally
- I will continue to avoid preservatives and processed foods (if I cannot pronounce the ingredient, I refuse to eat it)
- I will continue to eat sprouted grain breads and cereal
- I will limit sweets and when I do have them I will purposefully enjoy each bite
- I will continue taking Greensfirst daily (described as a “alkalizing cocktail”…gives me just what I need in the afternoon, a little energy and reduces my sugar cravings…all while giving me 10 servings of fruits and vegetables) - it is like magic!
