On Tuesday, after Oli and I took a run together and then played in the pool with Julia...my back felt a bit weak. For reasons I still do not understand, the pain worsened as the day progressed until I tried to get up from the luau and could only walk while enduring pain worse than labor (my drug-free labor, I might add).
Our dear friends Andrew and Leslie stepped out of dinner to help put our kids to bed while we went to the ER where after hours of waiting ('back pain' doesn't beat the triage list with the overdose or the guy who chopped off his thumb), I was given drugs to deal with the pain and sent home. Today, I learned it is a bulging disk and that chiropractic care is hopefully the solution.
The tsunami was a bit of a scare. We needed to evacuate the condo (taking everything with us, filling up every receptable in the condo with fresh water in the case we came back with no running water). We had 30 mins until roads would be closed at 1am and needed to drive to the hills and spend the night as high as possible. And that is what we did. We feel incredibly fortunate that the result of the wave that hit Maui was a bit of sand in the bottom of the pool and the whales hid from us for a day. Not bad considering what could have been..
Changing baby Sadie during evacuation...three people to make sure she didn't roll off the trunk.
kids sound asleep...got enough sleep that they were ready to go once we returned to the condo at 7am.
Andrew and Leslie....we nominate them for the friends you want to be with for cocktails, boogie boarding, tsunami's and ER runs.
