A couple of months ago, Oli and I were out walking Scout and he asked to have a slumber party. He told me slumber party is him plus 4 friends. Sounded reasonable to me. Sure, ...just after we move so that we have ample space.
This is one of those things that I got enthused about...(Brett not as much).
| With a sprained ankle, we couldn't do the father/son baseball game as planned. So...settling here for some board games. Quote (from Oli...obviously something we have told him too many times), "I guess X doesn't get to play anymore because he threw his game piece. That is too bad." |
| I just love how intently they all listen to each other at this age. |
| Quote as one of them runs off to the bathroom, "BRB, just going pee" |
| Dinner time! Julia was fully entertained just watching the boys. Quote while a bee was flying around amongst all the screaming, "Freeze! That way they won't notice you. What if they sting your eyes? Close your eyes! What if they sting your fingers...sit on your hands! What if they sting your 'privacy'? What if they miss your privacy and sting your nuts?" |
| I made the flower pot dessert and Oli did a great job of tricking them and was hard to convince them that infact he was eating cookie crumbs and not real dirt.. Quote, "You should really call the ambulance.." Oli's forehead? A rug burn from last week. |
| Not enough seats for everyone outside, so Brett gladly opted to avoid the chaos from inside by himself. |
| Quote from a 7 year old, "I am more of a MAC guy" |
| Scary part during Harry and the Hendersons. Notice the matching baseball pillowcases I made for them. |
Even with all his buddies over, Oli chose Scout as his best friend.
| Double dose of coffee needed...it was brought to our attention (literally) at midnight that one little guy had no interest sleeping away from his mom. It took pleading, convincing, bribing and an hour later I resorted to lying next to him to stop the tears and allow all the boys to fall back asleep. |
All in all, Oli had a great time and we want him to want to have his friends over here so mission accomplished. Was it more work than I imagined? Yes. Brett was right about that!
Oli'ism #213
Wendy: Oli, I am so proud of how you helped your friend in the middle of the night. You were compassionate, thoughtful, empathetic, creative, giving, and patient. You didn't get frustrated with him. You were a true friend. I am so proud that you are my step son.
(I meant every word of that...he showed so many great qualities and was a really really kind friend)
Oli: I am happy you're my step mom too. Otherwise I wouldn't have Julia. And if you didn't marry Dad, Julia wouldn't be so good looking.
