A Broken Heart

Today Oli attended Laura's birthday party. Laura turns out to be a special girl in Oli's eyes. He was one of few invited and the only boy invited (so maybe Laura feels the same).

Oli asked Laura yesterday what she wanted for her birthday (a first), Oli made sure I bought the right gift (a first), Oli insisted on helping me wrap the gift (a first). While wrapping the gift, he did say in a dreamy voice, "I think I may marry Laura one day".

The wrapping wasn't good enough so he made a separate card that would go on the bottom of the gift. He has never been so concerned with correct spelling. Once sufficiently wrapped, Oli ginergly set it by the door and wanted me to carefully carry it to the party.

"Laura, here is the heart I drew you". As Laura read the card and proceeded to open the gift she accidently tore the handmade card. I gasped.

"Laura just broke Oliver's heart" giggled Laura's older brother. As tears filled my eyes, Oli laughed and immediately started acting like someone broke his heart, in the literal sense (you know acting like he had been shot - he is such a ham). As kindergarteners, they apparently don't know the more common meaning of a "broken heart".

Here lies Oli's broken heart.

And here are the two cuties.
